DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

We’ve done our best to reflect the adventurous mind spirit in our design, returning always to three key principles:

enterprising: connecting people, driving ideas, bold.

playful: surprising, a bit quirky, friendly, engaging.

authentic: emersed in nature, uniquely Rwandan.

Rwandan craftmanship

Our rooms are luxurious yet thoughtful, with high-end imported fabrics chosen to suit each room. All of our woodwork, from doors to furniture, is handmade from native hardwoods by a talented network of Rwandan artisans. Our light shades are woven by cooperatives, and volcano stone quarried from the North of the country. Native, bird-friendly plants fill the property; it’s not unusual to spot hummingbirds swooping for nectar while you nurse a Negroni at the bar.

Our Nest entrance

Our inconic nest-like entrance which welcomes all our curious birds (guests) was designed by  designer Matt Deely, a creative director of the London 2012 Olympic Games and world-renowned stage set designer. Matt worked hand-in-hand with local artisans over several months to craft this stunning feature.

Artist-in-residence

Paul Mugisha, an award-winning Rwandan artist from Musanze, is our artist-in-residence. Paul was commissioned to create a unique art piece for each of our 19 rooms. Each piece has been inspired by the room mindset and this combines with The Nest’s natural terracotta tones and vibrant plant life to create a beautiful crafted space. Art pieces are available to purchase, please speak to the Manager to discuss purchasing a piece or working with Paul to commission something or your own.
